THE ALP
VICTORIA

Dear Daniel, Luke and Danielle.

I have a letter from Liberal Georgie Crozier MLC dated March 26, 2014.

It  is  a  response  to  our  opposition  to the clause in the Summary Offences  Act  which  restricts  the  right  to peaceful protest  in Victoria and increases police powers in that regard.

In part it reads:

"At the Bill's third reading in the Legislative Council,   neither the
Labor opposition nor the Green's voted against these important reforms
...."
Our understanding was that the Greens and Labor would vote against the Bill if the offending clause was not removed  and that Labor promised to repeal that part of the law when in government.

Please  clarify  the  Greens  position  on  the  Summary Offences and Sentencing Amendment Act 2014.

VIC CRITICS OF QLD LAWS

Here is a recent article on Qld:

Adrienne

We do not want these types of laws in Victoria. Go see you MP and tell him or her just that.

Look up your nearest MP with the link below. Go see the staff and make an appointment. Let the staff know your feelings.

Pendo from Brotherhood CMC will speak on the Ten Network's Wake-up Programme on Thursday morning just after 8am regarding the clubs opposition to the Qld anti-rights laws.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Brotherhood Christian Motorcycle Club considers the Criminal Law (Criminal Organisations Disruption) Amendment Act 2013 and the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment Act 2013 lay a dangerous foundation for abuse both now and in the future.

The club has spoken out against anti-association laws in NSW and other states in the past, but considers these Queensland laws to be the most menacing in Australia. Of grave concern is the interest other states have shown in these anti-rights laws. These type of laws change the nature of crime from ‘what you do’ to ‘who you talk to’, and the club sees them as being in conflict with Christian principles.

Brotherhood CMC has explained its position in a brief paper (attached) and has emailed this to all members of the Queensland parliament asking them to repeal these laws.
The club is also in the process of contacting churches in Queensland, asking them to investigate the laws and compare them with the Bible’s teaching on justice, to write to their local member and to even consider contributing funds to support the High Court challenge.

The club supports the High Court challenge of these laws announced this week and hopes that the High Court will act to preserve Australian democratic principles and our way of life.
