Road Safety Plan
The City of Melbourne is developing its Road Safety Plan 2012-16 which aims to improve safety for all road users, particularly pedestrians, cyclists & motorcyclists.
We are Victoria’s busiest municipality for pedestrian & cycling activity. On an average day, 805,000 people come into the city & our daily population is set to reach 1 million in the next 10 years. As the city continues to grow, we need to ensure the safety of vulnerable road users.
In the 5 year period between January 2007 - December 2011:
15 pedestrians,
2 cyclists &
6 motorcyclists were killed;
and
946 pedestrians,
1103 cyclists &
658 motorcyclists were injured.
The Road Safety Plan will outline actions to enhance the safety of walking & cycling in Melbourne & prepare for the future growth of all travel modes. You’re invited to provide input to the development of the Plan by Monday 3 December 2012, to assist us in identifying the key issues, objectives & outcomes.
