The driver of the Commodore who killed all those people in Bourke Street, Melbourne last Friday was on bail when he breached a previous bail according to the Herald Sun. And, He had 20 plus warrants outstanding.
The paper says there had been opportunities to stop him in the suburbs but police command decided to let him carry on.
This is no criticism of the emergency workers at the sharp end. They were superb. It seems obvious to me that bail rules need to be much, much tougher and that VicPol command needs to take a good hard look at its' priorities.
Maybe five people would not have died if this mad man had been on remand. Failing that, if street cops had been allowed to do their jobs, he would have been in a lock up before he got near the CBD.
